The Eagle blames cheating judges for Vietnam defeat

Top Botswana boxer, Moabi ‘The Eagle’ Ngaka has bared his talons in an explosive interview with Voice Sport, claiming his Sunday fight night in Vietnam was rigged.

The 27-year-old Tobane toughman fell to a controversial defeat against local pugilist Cao Quoc Viet, with the judges awarding the six-round battle to the Vietnamese youngster 70 -68.

Not mincing his words, a furious Ngaka called the result in Ho Chi Minh a travesty, insisting he did more than enough to get the win.

“I am not happy with the result at all. I knew they were going to cheat and they did exactly that. Vietnam is a communist country. They like inviting foreigners only to cheat them. While others were surprised by the results, I had expected the cheat,” raged the upset fighter.

Ngaka was left to rue his reluctance to go for the kill, admitting the chance of a knock-out was there due to his opponent’s open defence, but he decided not to risk it.

“Going into the fight, the goal was to complete all the six rounds,” he explained.

Despite the loss, his second defeat in nine professional bouts, Ngaka, who turned pro in 2017, is optimistic about the future.

“I just appreciate that the fight opened many international doors for me as I have been receiving endless calls from Europe, United States of America, Asia just to mention a few. So it is up to me to go back to the drawing board to decide which path to take,” declared the Eagle, who was quick to thank Engen Botswana for sponsoring his trip to Vietnam.

He remains in the Asian country for training but expects to return to Botswana soon.
