Mahalapye Central Police are desperately searching for a suspected rapist who attacked a 48-year-old woman in the town on Saturday night.
The victim had been enjoying her President’s Holiday, drinking at the local bars and was making her way back home when she was accosted at around 2100 hours.
According to Station Commander, Meshack Ranku, the woman resides in Basimane ward and knows her assailant well.
“The suspect dragged her to a nearby bush where he allegedly raped her. The suspect then fled the scene; we are working tirelessly to apprehend him,” the Superintendent assured The Voice.
Despite their best efforts, by Friday afternoon the police were yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.
Although the suspect’s identity is known to the police, the top cop was reluctant to reveal his name, explaining they would only do so after he’s caught and charged.
Ranku closed by urging civilians to avoid walking home alone at night whenever possible as it puts them in danger.
