MDS to build two houses for Boteti family
One of Botswana’s leading explosives and blasting engineering companies, Marung Development Services brought smiles to a disadvantaged family in Letlhakane last Thursday.
In their spirited efforts to make an impact and leave a legacy in Boteti, a community in which they operate in, the company through the help of the Social Workers identified the Tsholofelo family who had no roof over their heads.
They then resolved to build two houses for the family in addition to fencing the yard and connecting water. Each house will have two bedrooms, a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Marung MD Sebele Molalapata said the day marked a milestone in a journey that started back in 2019.
“We knew then, as we know now, that we operate within a unique society, and that the basic humane premise in this society, as in any society, is that there are disadvantaged members amongst the community,” he said.
Molalapata, who has extensive knowledge and experience in mining and quarrying from both South Africa and Botswana, said after careful evaluation of all the different cases they landed at the Tsholofelo family.
“We know very much the plight of the children in the hostels around this catchment area, especially with the coming of winter. However, we note that at least they have a roof over their head, unlike the Tsholofelo family,” he said.
The MD further noted the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative is in line with Pillar 2 of the National Vision 2036 where it talks about Social Inclusion and Equality, as well as Social Upliftment.
“Tsholofelo means hope, and who better to bring it than to the Tsholofelo family. With this gesture, the Tsholofelo family will have a different future, a different form of peace in the home, and that hope will have a new meaning to them when the project is completed,” declared Molalapata.
MDS is a Botswana registered company founded by Molalapata, a pioneer of Explosives and Blasting Engineering in Botswana. The company is currently contracted by Lucara Botswana, to provide blast hole drilling services at Karowe Diamond mine.
Beyond offering a variety of products and services that include drilling and blasting, they also offer consultancy services on a range of mining operational and technical issues.
They also have a subsidiary company, JSI Rock Tools, which specializes in the supply and service of premium drilling ground engaging tools (GET).
