Mogoditshane police are investigating the tragic death of a 20-year-old youth who shot himself in the chest with a shotgun in Block 7, Gaborone on Saturday afternoon.
The suspected suicide happened a few hours after the uncle, who is the licenced owner of the gun, left their residence for the mall around 11:00am.
The young man was found at around 13:45pm, lying in his bed with a gaping shot wound to his chest.
According to Senior Superintendent, Mmoloke Sebako of the No 13 District, the deceased did not leave a suicide note.
“Investigations are still ongoing to find out what could have prompted the young man to take his own life,” stated Sebako.
Police are, however, now probing how the young man gained access to the shotgun, raising questions into the safety and storage of firearms in the household.
