A fatal fall-out over P100 has landed a man in the morgue and his younger brother behind bars. 28-year-old Basimanebotlhe Mpolokang was arraigned before Molepolole Magistrates Court earlier today (5 September) charged with the murder of his sibling, Ontshetse Mpolokang.
The 35-year-old was stabbed to death at the family home, where the two brothers live together, in Molepolole’s Goo-Matlhaba ward at around 1950 hrs on Tuesday 2 nd September.
Remanded in custody, the suspect was overheard telling officers escorting him to the police van that he acted in self-defence.
The young Mpolokang explained they were fighting over cash they earned from working a temporary job.
“We were paid P200 and shared the money equally. He used his P100 to buy beer, and I told him I'm going to use my share to buy meat. After he finished his money, he violently demanded my P100, and I gave him the money. He kept demanding some money from me, and I told him I didn’t have money,” moaned the accused killer, who claimed his big bro then started punching him.
“During fighting, he took out a knife and he attempted to stab me. I snatched the knife from him; I was trying to scare him, I didn’t do it intentionally!” insisted Mpolokang, glumly getting into the police vehicle that whisked him off to jail, where he will remain until his next mention, set for 25 September.
