A 23-year-old female social worker has been arrested for reckless driving and causing death following a tragic accident in Maun last weekend (Feb 9, 2025).
According to Maun Police Station Commander, Joseph Lepodise, the young woman was allegedly speeding in the early hours of Sunday morning (Feb 9, 2025) when she failed to negotiate a curve along the Sekgoma-Matlola road.
Her red VW Golf veered off the road, crashing into a brick house, causing part of it to collapse.
“There were four people sleeping in the house, including a 12-year-old boy,” said Lepodise.
Tragically, the young boy succumbed to his injuries, while three other occupants of the house sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The driver, who complained of chest pains and an injured leg, is currently in police custody.
Lepodise confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will soon appear in court to face charges.
The tragic incident has left the bereaved family in shock as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of a young life and the devastation caused by the crash.
