Chiefs take on Santos in cracking season opener
Flamengo Santos expect to have their work cut out for them this Saturday as they host a wounded Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Gabane in the First Division South league opener.
Magosi’s dream of playing in the Premier League were thwarted by ruthless Francistown rookies, Eleven Angels, losing a two legged promotional play-off fixture 5-0.
The Kgatleng giants last played in the top tier league in 2019.
Their weekend opponents relegated a year earlier in 2018 and have never returned to top flight football.
Ma14 as Santos are popularly known endured a difficult 2021/22 season, finishing their campaign in the bottom half of the table.
Both clubs are known for their enterprising attacking football and sparks are expected to fly as they both look to start their seasons with a bang.
Chiefs go into battle without the services of Phillimon Makwengwe, after the experience coach parted ways with the club this week over contractual complications.
Makwengwe left without overseeing a single match.
Moving swiftly to replace Makwengwe, Magosi Chairman Victor Kobe told Voice Sport the team would be unveiling a new coach very soon.
In an interview with Voice Sport on Wednesday, Santos gaffer, Otlaadisa Mhambi said the five months pre-season was helpful, as it has allowed them to try new combinations, and given players ample time to know each other.
“We are ready to face Chiefs. We’ve brought a few experienced players such as Arnold Mampori and Ontse Ntesa who are going to guide our young squad,” said Mhambi.
Mohambi told Voice Sport that they plan to fight for top honours this season, with one eye on getting automatic promotion.
“We just want to bring back the glory days,” he added.
