A nurse at Inalegolo village is tending to a broken heart and shattered dreams after a man she believed to be her prince charming swindled her of P340, 000.

What began as a storybook romance for the 34-year-old woman turned into a real life nightmare after the man who had introduced himself as a Chief Executive Officer at Jwaneng mine fleeced her of the cash, leaving her broke and heartbroken.

It is alleged that the nurse was swept off her feet when they met in October last year, finding herself lulled into a false sense of financial security when the conman produced a fake identity card proving he was the man in charge at the Jwaneng mine.

What followed then were grand gestures of affection laced with flowery declarations of love and the naive nurse was convinced she had found her soul mate.

Her belief was further compounded when her man introduced her to his mother, who has since been cited as his partner in crime, and she eagerly accepted his marriage proposal.

“As time went on the man claimed he had a court case for which he needed some money to seek the services of an attorney. He told the woman that he could not have access to his account as it was frozen by the bank,” a close friend said, further disclosing that the nurse then sent him P313, 000 cash through Orange money and cellphone banking on various dates.

Later on, the man is said to have continued demanding money from the nurse who was also eager to help.

The man reportedly demanded P10 000 claiming it was for the process of payment for ‘lobola’ and another P10, 000 for the landboard to speed up the process for his plot application at Molapowabojang.

As if that was not enough, he further requested the woman to assist with the burial of his son and the unsuspecting the woman gave him cash amounting to P7, 000.

The conman is said to have also taken the woman’s car and pawned it at a certain pawn shop in Tlotlweng using his cousin’s name.

Recently when the woman tried to call the said fiance, he did not answer her calls and that was when she realised she had been conned.

The matter was reported before Lobatse police last week Monday.

Lobatse Police Station Commander, Superintendent Baakile Moshashane, confirmed that the matter was reported at his station but referred any further enquiries to Kang police where the incident occurred.

Kang Police Station Commander, Superintendent Elias Magosi, confirmed that they were investigating the incident but was reluctant to shed any more light on the matter.
