Botswana National Front (BNF) spokesperson, Justin Hunyepa, has dismissed news doing the rounds that Moeti Mohwasa has been dropped from Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC)’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Hunyepa this week told this publication that Mohwasa was still a member of the BNF Central Committee as well as UDC NEC as its Head of Communication.
“The BNF held its Central Committee meeting in Francistown on Sunday 16th April 2023 but did not finish its business. On Wednesday the meeting continued and was accordingly concluded. Mohwasa was not removed, but we also added our representation with Womens League President, Dr Bonang Nkoane,” explained Hunyepa.
Allegations have been flying thick and fast on social media suggesting that Mohwasa was no longer the UDC Head of Communications.
Hunyepa added that his party also resolved to fast track implementation of leadership retreat; preparing for its primary elections and relevant structures being set up. “We are intensifying our unity initiatives with other opposition parties in preparation for the 2024 general elections as per BNF recent strategic plan,” he added.
He also mentioned that the Central Committee emphasized the urgent need for a united opposition and that they will do everything in their power to attract all opposition parties into the UDC ahead of the 2024 general elections.
