IN TROUBLE: Garebangwato

Jilted man allegedly takes vicious revenge on ex

Believing his ex had used him for his money only to dump him soon after, a jilted Molepolole man allegedly took terrible revenge, hitting her over the head with a brick as he threatened to kill her.

Currently in jail on remand, Reuben Garebangwato, 34, is facing three charges: threat to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage to property.

Seemingly unable to accept that Dipina Kelebeng no longer wanted him, especially as he had just splashed his cash on her, on 30 November last year, Garebangwato reportedly turned up at her place in a foul mood.

It appears he forced entry into the house, damaging the door in the process, before grabbing Kelebeng by the neck, punching her all over her body and then striking her in the head with a brick.

During the vicious beating, the suspect apparently warned his former lover he would kill her and then take his own life.

After fleeing the scene, Garebangwato managed to evade the police for over two months before he was finally tracked down on Tuesday 10 February.

During his arrest, it is reported the Difetlhamolelo ward resident attempted to resist, with prosecution informing court they intend to add an extra charge of assaulting a police officer during his next mention.

Securing the accused woman-beater’s incarceration, Sergeant Koketso Motshoganetsi noted Garebangwato has showed himself to be a flight risk and thus was not a suitable candidate for bail.

For his part, the suspect protested his innocence. “I didn’t utter any threatening words! May I be granted bail, I’m caring for my children one at a boarding school and another in pre-school,” revealed Garebangwato, who was escorted in and out of court by a heavy police presence.

He will remain behind bars until his next appearance before Molepolole Magistrates Court on 12 March, when he is expected to be hit with an additional count of assaulting a cop.

His alleged victim, meanwhile, is currently housed at the protection centre.
