A 34-year-old jilted lover from Molepolole, Difetlhamolelo ward has been remanded in custody after he threatened to kill his former lover and hit her with a brick on the head causing serious injuries.
The accused Reuben Garebangwato is charged with three counts of threat to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage to property.
He allegedly threatened to kill his former lover Dipina Kelebeng and kill himself, claiming she has used her buying things for her and later end the relationship.
According to the charge sheet, Garebangwato last year November 30 th , damaged the door and forcefully opened the house then started assaulting Kelebeng by grabbing her by the neck, hit her with fists all over her body and a brick on the head.
After the incidents he fled the scene and only recently got arrested on Tuesday and arraigned before Molepolole Magistrates’ Court two days later on Thursday.
Though the victim is at the protection centre, prosecutor Sergeant Koketso Motshoganetsi pleaded for accused remand saying he is a flight risk, showing intentions to bring another charge for assaulting a police officer during his arrest.
“I didn’t utter any threatening words, may I be granted bail I’m caring for my children one at a boarding school and another in pre- school,” Garebangwato told the court.
His unruly behaviour resulted in a heavy escort of police officers when he was taken before court and when going to prison.
Garebangwato will appear in court again next Thursday (February 26th) when a new charge of assaulting a police officer will be read to him.
