Tonota police are investigating a case in which a 15 year old girl drowned in Shashe River on Thursday.

The girl was said to have been with her two friends (a boy and girl) of her age and they were walking from Semotswane village to Shashe Bridge when the incident occurred.

Tonota police Station Commander, Oteng Ngada, confirmed the incident and noted that they received the report yesterday from a boy who had been with the deceased.

“He reported that they were coming from Semotswane village to Shashe Bridge when the girl attempted to take a bath in the river. Unfortunately she drowned and was certified dead at Masedi clinic in Tonota,” Ngada added.

The Station Commander has urged people to use bridges to cross flooded rivers especially when they do not know the depth of the water.
