SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER: Drip Ya Ghetto line-up

Style, charity and music the name of the game

This Saturday, the second city’s cool cats will converge on Molapo Leisure Gardens for a chilled night of music as ‘Drip Ya Ghetto’ debuts at Molapo Leisure Gardens.

The lifestyle event, which runs from 6pm to 6am, is an opportunity for Francistown’s youth to express themselves via their apparel – whether it’s Hip Hop, Pantsula or Retro, anything goes!

With P500 awaiting the best dressed patron, attendees have plenty of motivation to embrace the occasion and dress to impress.

Best of all, the gig has a charity angle to it, with a chunk of the proceeds going towards a needy local family.

‘Drip Ya Ghetto’ is the brainchild of two camera-shy youth, who have asked for their names not to be made public.

Taking responsibility for promoting the show, one of the organizers, Thabo Tanthuma, told Voice Entertainment the ultimate goal is to generate funds to buy food and other necessities for the identified family.

“There is a family in Block 7 here in Francistown living in very harsh conditions. The two guys who don’t want to be mentioned took it upon themselves to come up with a fund raising activity to help them with whatever they might need. After much soul-searching, they came up with the idea to host a music and lifestyle event,” explained Tanthuma.

On top of the worthy cause, organisers wanted to come up with something a little different for Ghetto.

“When planning this event, we wanted to bring something new to the second city. Most lifestyle events are held in Gabs, making ghetto youth feel as if they don’t have drip or can’t express themselves through clothing,” reasoned Tanthuma.

The event’s headliners include Francistown old heads: Colastraw, DJ Missy, Romeo Stunna and DJ Bunz. Ensuring there are no lulls in between performances, MC Holic and SG ware on MC duty.

Early bird tickets are flying off the shelf for P80 at Nswazi Mall, while slackers will have to fork out P100 for a normal ticket.
