A 51-year-old man of Senonnori ward in Maun was arraigned before Maun Magistrates’ Court on Monday for allegedly molesting his 8-year-old daughter several times between July and September 2023.
According to court papers on September 13th, the young girl was found crying by her mother and, after a gentle interrogation, the child revealed that her biological father had molested her.
It is also said that the child also explained that the father had beaten her up because she had resisted his attacks.
Charged with a single count of rape, the father denied having any sexual encounters with his child. In his brief appearance at Maun Magistrates’ Court, the disgraced father expressed concern over his incarceration and applied for bail.
“I have been in police custody for some time, may I be released out on bail,” said the father.
The prosecution did not oppose his request as the mother and the child have been taken to a safety shelter where the father would not have access to them.
Magistrate Gofaone Mosweu granted him bail on conditions that he provide two sureties and that he attend all court mentions as and when required to do so.
