A 58-year-old man of Toteng village has lost his life to a stray bullet that was intended to kill Guinea fowls.
The shooting happened at Mmakebane cattle post near Sehithwa last Sunday.
Officer commanding for Police District 5, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela said they have arrested a 58-year old father and his 17- year -old son in connection with the incident.
“The duo left their home and went into the bush to hunt for guinea fowls carrying a pellet gun and a shot gun. Upon arrival they took the pellet gun only leaving the shot gun behind in the vehicle. The boy later went back to collect it, he pulled the trigger and the bullet landed on a 58 year old man who was passing by,” revealed Gochela.
“The man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Letsholathebe hospital in Maun where he passed on a few hours after the incident,” added Gochela.
The two men are said to be in police custody assisting with investigations. The gun in question is said to have been licensed under the names of the 58-year-old suspect.
According to Gochela the duo are likely to be charged with criminal negligence.
Gochela has urged gun owners not leave their guns loaded, as it is risky. He went on to plead that guns should always be kept in safe and secure places.
