A 35-year-old man from Kubung, Morwane ward, has been remanded in custody by the Molepolole Magistrates’ Court, accused of murdering another man at a Chibuku depot.
The incident reportedly occurred when the suspect, Clifford Rangaisi, and the deceased, 29-year-old Kealeboga Obatlile, were drinking and a heated argument over a girl erupted, quickly escalating into a bloody fight.
Appearing in court with a heavily bandage Head, Rangaisi claimed self-defense. He alleged that the deceased stabbed him in the belly with a screwdriver, prompting him to retaliate. During the scuffle, Rangaisi allegedly drove a knife through Obatile’s ribcage, a blow that left him unconscious on the ground.
He was certified dead upon arrival at Thamaga Primary Hospital.
Although Rangaisi fled the scene after the incident, he later surrendered to the police.
Prosecutor Sub-Inspector Ogone Motsholathebe stated that statements from potential witnesses are still being recorded.
“A post-mortem is yet to be conducted, and the exhibit has not been sent to the lab,” said Sub-Inspector Motsholathebe, requesting the accused’s remand.
Rangaisi is scheduled to appear for a mention on 18 September 2025
