Annual BNSC Sports Awards return in May
After a three-year hiatus, BNSC Chief Executive Officer Tuelo Serufho has announced that the National Sports Awards held for the last time in 2019 will return this year.
The mother body could not award sporting excellence due to Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the health authorities following the outbreak of the pandemic.
However, with the world free of the virus, Serufho and his team have come out to play.
The BNSC boss told Voice Sport in a telephone interview on Wednesday that the 40th BNSC Annual Sports Awards are scheduled to take place on 6th May at a venue yet to be announced.
“We are back in full action, all the activities that we held annually before the outbreak of Covid-19 will be returning,” said an excited Serufho.
Serufho further said despite the many challenges posed by the pandemic, which included among others confining athletes to small spaces thus limiting their training, a lot of local stars performed well beyond expectations.
“They’ve done way better than they did in the last two award ceremonies, and as the mother body, it is our responsibility to recognize their achievements and appreciate them accordingly,” Serufho told Voice Sport.
The CEO promised a more glitz and glamourous occasion fit for deserving world stars.
“As time passes, things change, and we cannot host the same awards as we did in 2019,” Serufho added.
“We are bringing something different this year, which I cannot share with you because we are still in the development stage; a proper communication will be given when everything is ready,” a cagey Serufho told Voice Sport.
He however further revealed that the awards will be followed by a sponsor’s dinner that will take place a night after the awards, to recognise and thank the sponsors and all the stakeholders that made the awards a reality.
