40-year-old twins shared each other’s bad luck, sustaining terrible injuries after a man wielding a branding iron beat them to a bloody pulp in a drunken dispute earlier this month.
Kago Muzila and his identical brother, Kagiso, were both hospitilised after the incident, which occurred in Matshelagabedi’s Sekukwe ward on Sunday 8 August.
Kagiso has since been discharged while Kago remains under care at Nyangabgwe.
The man suspected of dishing out the brutal beating, 25-year-old Odirile Kedikilwe was arrested two days later.
He appeared before Francistown Magistrates Court this Monday where he was charged with unlawful wounding as well as stealing.
It was heard that during the scuffle, the accused made away with P500 belonging to Kago – who also happens to be the boyfriend to Kedikilwe’s sister.
Police suspect that Kedikilwe became angry with the brothers when he found them drinking and making noise at his sister’s place, actions he apparently found disrespectful.
During the arraignment, it emerged this is not the first time the suspect has fallen foul of the law as he has another pending case of unlawful wounding, for which he is out on bail.
The prosecution further revealed he had not turned up for his last two scheduled court sessions.
“This proves he is not a suitable candidate for bail,” argued Prosecutor, Chilume Mpena.
For his part, when given the chance to address court, Kedikilwe maintained he could not remember beating up the brothers with a branding iron but admitted throwing a stone at them.
He was remanded in custody and will appear again in court on 28 September.
