A Francistown woman is nursing a severe headache at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital after being struck with a cooking pot on Sunday evening.

According to sources in Ntshe location where the couple lived, the injured woman was rescued by a neighbour, who found her lying unconscious on the floor, blood seeping from a deep gash to the head.

In a brief interview with The Voice, Central Police Station Commander, Lebalang Maniki revealed the incident happened around 1900 hours.

“It was reported that a man assaulted his girlfriend and fled. We suspect a hard object was used as the woman sustained some injuries. We are currently looking for the middle aged unemployed boyfriend, who we will charge with assault occasioning bodily harm,” said the police boss.

Meanwhile, 200km away in Nata, police recorded yet another suspected case of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

30-year-old Banakiso Daniel was remanded in custody on Monday accused of hacking a woman with an axe.

It is alleged Daniel attacked the 43-year-old lady after she rejected his love proposal.

“The woman reported that the man wanted to fall in love with her but when she refused he hit her with an axe on her hands. She is recovering at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where she was hospitalised on the same day,” disclosed Nata Superintendent, Vincent Pitseitsile.

Although he stressed Nata Police are ‘extremely serious’ about combating GBV in the area, he admitted it was proving difficult.

“Most Nata men believe they have the right to beat their woman,” explained Pitseitsile, adding it was a mindset the police are fighting hard to change.
