Although dance remains an art form very much on the fringes in Botswana, 22-year-old Chantel Tisha Ben is doing her best to change that.
The Shoshong stunner certainly has the moves to make a difference.
When she’s not tearing it up on the dance floor, the BAC graduate crunches numbers as an Accounts Assistant at Ever Dynamic Optometrist.
When did your love for dance start?
My love for dancing started when I was about 10 years old.
I remember it vividly because I was dancing in a circle and the feeling that emerged was surreal.
But at that time, I didn’t really know what it was all about or what I was capable of.
What should we expect from you in 2022?
I plan on growing my dancing career further and I intend on having dance workshops, more dance classes etc.
So the plan is to go bigger and better.
How would you describe yourself to someone who doesn’t know you?
I am a very optimistic person.
I literally look at everything in a positive light and I always believe everything happens for a reason.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Yes! I have and bathong ba tla n’hurda.
Kana what is to heal? I dated this other guy and, long story short, he broke my heart but hey, one can never be enough right!
But it’s time to move on and do better.
If you were to choose a different career path what would it be?
I would choose to be a criminal psychologist.
There is just something about growing up and watching documentaries about such… so yeah.
Do you speak any other languages?
I speak Setswana, English, a bit of French and a bit of Korean.
And how do you like to spend your spare time?
I am always very busy so when I get the chance I make sure I make time for my family and friends.
If not that, because I get like zero sleep, I make sure I rest well enough, even for the other coming days.
