All eyes on Serame

  • BDP Women’s Wing Congress to be held in Kanye

Botswana Democratic Party’s Women’s Wing will this weekend hold its 17th Elective Congress at Seepapitso Senior Secondary School in Kanye.

The congress to be held under the theme, “Our Empowerment Our Unity Strength” will have Minister of Finance, Peggy Serame pitted against Sethu Maano Gabanakgosi for the Chairperson seat.

Gabanakgosi comes from Gabane/Mmankgodi Constituency under the Kweneng Region.

She is also a former National Youth Executive Committee Political Officer and Gabane/Mmankgodi Branch Secretary.

Serame has been endorsed by two lobby lists as Chair while Gabanakgosi has only one.

According to party insiders, Serame has the blessings of the party President, Mokgweetsi Masisi.

Vice-Chairperson

Former Gaborone City Mayor and Special Elected Councillor, Veronica Lesole is tipped to be Vice-Chair.

She is contesting under the two powerful lobby lists that have Serame as Chair.

The Veteran Lesole will face Councillor Julia Meranda of Mahalapye West.

Secretary

The incumbent, Neo Maruapula will be defending her seat against Tshenolo Leshomo who has Serame as her preferred Chairperson.

Leshomo was a Specially Elected Councillor from 2009 to 2014 and is the current Chairperson of Political Education Committee for Women’s Wing.

They will also face competition from Pinkie Motswakhumo who is under Gabanakgosi’s group.
