In an attempt to raise the nation’s health and happiness during the Covid-19 pandemic, Botswana Medical Aid Society (Bomaid) has launched online fitness sessions aimed at both its members and the public at large.

The classes, which are scheduled for 7am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, are streamed free of charge through Bomaid and The Voice Newspaper’s Facebook pages.

Outlining the thinking behind the initiative, Bomaid Chief Operations Officer, Thato Kubu, said, “It is our responsibility as pioneers in the medical aid space to empower our people with whatever tools to enhance their health and happiness during these challenging times.

“In addition to the P2 million we donated towards the Covid-19 Relief Fund, we have decided to add in free fitness classes to the public. It is our considered understanding that by keeping our members fit we would be assisting them to fight off the Covid-19 virus as regular exercise strengthens the immune system. We think this step is crucial in the fight against the pandemic because, as Bomaid, we believe in the preventative approach to medicine. Our belief is that a healthy and happy people makes for a formidable Botswana.”

Meanwhile, in their efforts to effectively meet their members’ needs, Bomaid has upgraded its medical plans to include Travel Insurance from its top tier to middle levels plans.

Additionally, it has included Mental Health Hospitalisation benefits across all plans to stem the tide of alcohol and drug abuse cases. More recently, the society, in a bid to ensure better customer service, launched its Android Bomaid App off the Google Play Store.

“Our commitment to our members’ health and happiness is not only a once off engagement. This was, and still is, our purpose. To this end, we will do everything possible to bring innovative programmes such as this online Stay Home Workout Session and many more in the near future to transform our industry and ensure that our people’s wellness is prioritised and catered to. Members and the public should be on the lookout for more of such people-centred initiatives from the brand!” promised Kubu.
