Violent fight for a boyfriend

IN COURT: Ithuteng

Woman’s kick lands love rival in hospital

Two young women’s violent fight over a phone simcard suspected to have their boyfriend’s messages has ended with one hospitalised and another in prison.

The fight ensued after both women from Molepolole – Gaofenngwe Ithuteng, 21, and Naomi Ranko – reportedly had a misunderstanding after Ithuteng demanded for Ranko to hand over the simcard from her phone and she refused.

During the fight, on April 27th, 2022 in Matlhalerwa, while slapping and kicking each other, Ranko felt a sharp pain after Ithuteng had allegedly kicked her on the crotch and she ran for her life.

However, because she did not have any visible injuries, Ranko took it lightly until the pain worsened and she went to Scottish Livingstone Hospital three days later to be medically examined.

She was found to have suffered internal bleeding and referred to Princess Marina Hospital where she is currently admitted.

During arraignment before Molepolole Magistrates’ Court, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso, pleaded with the court to remand Ithuteng until completion of their investigations because the victim had not yet submitted her statement.

“The victim is still hospitalised and she is the one to direct the investigating officer to the witnesses. While still awaiting the victim to record her statement, may the accused be remanded in custody till we complete our investigations,” explained ASP Koketso.

Seemingly resigned to her fate, Ithuteng did not try her luck in praying for the court to grant her bail.

She will continue languishing in jail until her next court appearance on May 27th, 2022.
