KHAMA ACCUSES DIS OF SISNISTER MOTIVE
The former president Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama has accused the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) agents of trailing him around the country for sinister motives.
Khama who has consistently reiterated fears for his life in different media platforms over the last year says he has now decided to report the matter to an international agency that he did not want to name for now.
He also noted that his lawyers were compiling a report on the matter and once a draft has been presented to him for accuracy and sent, he would reveal which agency he has reported to.
“ You don’t get followed around for fun. Obviously they do so to do something. It costs money and manpower. This expense is for a purpose. If they wanted information about where I am going they could just ask my DIS security to let them know. The fact they don’t speaks for itself,” said Khama in an interview.
Asked why he did not report to the police Khama retorted, “Don’t forget they signed up to the fabricated Jako Hubona affidavit against me.”
He was referring to the affidavit that implicated him in the P100 billion money laundering case involving former Spy agent Velminah Maswabi, which has since gone up in smoke with prosecution deciding to withdraw it recently.
In October the DIS recalled seven of Khama’s security detail, including drivers, his long-time medic and some of his bodyguards.
In a statement the DIS Public Relations department indicated that there has been a change of some personnel assigned to the former President due to the on going restructuring within their office, the exercise which has affected all divisions of the DIS.
The statement further said the strength of personal protection detail deployed to the Former President has not been affected by this development.
However Khama has insisted that the scaling down was part of the DIS effort to weaken his security and leave him exposed to possible danger.
