HIDING HIS HEAD: Modirelabangwe and his famous lawyer, Sebogo

Six months after he was arrested and charged with his wife’s murder, a former soccer star soldier is still waiting on the postmortem results, which he insists will clear his name.

45-year-old Gaboutlwelwe ‘Rich’ Modirelabangwe, a Lieutenant Colonel in the BDF who represented Botswana during his playing days, is accused of killing his wife, Dorothy Sebolai Modirelabangwe.

The primary school teacher’s body was found at their home in Glen Valley BDF camp on 13 January.

Although the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, it is rumoured Dorothy may have been strangled.

In the original arraignment back in January, the prosecution promised to produce the postmortem within ten days.

Six months down the line and the state are yet to make good on this promise, singing a similar tune in court this week.

Giving no explanation for the long delay, prosecution once again announced they were yet to receive the postmortem. However, they revealed investigations were almost complete and pledged to have the postmortem report available before court by the next sitting – set for this Monday (17 July).

Meanwhile, Modirelabangwe remains free on bail.

Known as ‘Stopper’ on the football field, the retired central defender is being defended by celebrity lawyer, Tebogo Sebogo, and has maintained his innocence from the start.
