If given bail he might continue raping women and young girls – Prosecutor

Suspected serial rapist, Atlarelang Mothusi Tullah, was on Monday denied bail pending trial before Francistown High Court. Tullah, 27, is facing seven counts of rape before Serowe Magistrates’ Court.

Most of his victms are the strangers, the court was told.

State Prosecutor, Koziba Nhlanga, told the court that the accused is not a bail candidate as he has shown to be dangerous to the community.

“If granted bail, he will continue raping women and younger girls, so we plead he be further remanded in custody,” said Nhlanga.

Rejecting Tullah’s bail application, Judge Moroka said considering bail pending trial, it does not matter whether the accused is guilty or not as the constitution on personal liberty protects personal liberty against the accused person.

“However, the same personal liberty will be deprived looking at some factors. Here the accused is facing multiple rape cases and have not been convicted in anyone but all on trial.”

“The accused plea of bail pending trial will not be successful because if he is facing multiple offences, he may qualify in one and not qualify in others, so his bail application is dismissed,” said Judge Moroka.
