Triple murder suspect speaks

Given the chance to speak in court and question the Assistant Investigating Officer, triple murder suspect, Boikanyo ‘Teddy’ France dropped a bombshell.

Instead of querying the statements made by Detective Constable, Jane Ketlogetswe, the 40-year-old went off in a completely different direction during Tuesday’s tense court session.

“My girlfriend was two months pregnant; she committed abortion without my consent to do that,” stated the man who stands accused of killing his three sons, allegedly slitting their throats at their home in Mmoroso ward in Tati Siding on 17 July.

Speaking in clear Setswana, his voice calm and measured beneath his facemask, France demanded to know why the police had not followed up on his complaints.

“After I noticed she terminated my pregnancy, I went back home to Tatisiding. The following day [15 July], I saw the police officers coming to arrest me – she had run to report that I threatened her before I could report her for what she did,” stated the suspect, who, with his newly shaved head, looked completely different and much older than on his first court appearance, at the Magistrates in Area L on Thursday 25 July, the day after his arrest.

With the packed courtroom hanging on his every word, France said he had told the cops to check his house, where they would find the medicine his baby mama, Tlholego Botshelo, used to abort their unborn child.

“I asked them to do a test on her. My question is: why did they not do this?” France demanded.

It was a question that will remain unanswered for now, with Senior Magistrate, Game Mooketsi, explaining his queries should be directed at what DC Ketlogetswe had said and nothing else.

“No further questions,” was France’s disappointed response.
