Murder suspect: Motlhanka Robert

A 54-year-old security guard has been charged with murder and remanded in custody by Francistown Magistrates Court.

On the evening of Monday 14 October, the grey haired suspect, Motlhanka Robert, is said to have ‘unlawfully caused the death’ of Ketlhobogile Mocheche, 29, at Block 7 behind the police camp.

According to Kutlwano Police Station Assistant Superintendent, Alice Oabile, the deceased’s bloodied body was discovered on Tuesday morning by a passerby, who immediately alerted the cops.

“Preliminary observations revealed that the deceased’s body had serious injuries but the motive or weapon used in the killing is still unknown,” Oabile explained.

She continued that they arrested Robert after he unwittingly turned himself in.

“The man came to our offices and reported what he encountered in the night with a man he doesn’t know and we arrested him. When he came to report, he did not know the other man was dead!”

Sources on the street say Robert was returning home from his job as a guard at Hyprop Company in Tatisisding when the man he ended up killing tried to rob him.

“He was acting in self-defence!” speculated the source.

Remanded in custody, Robert will next appear before court on 7 November.
