READY TO DEFEND HIS TITLE: Mothibedi

Local Professional boxer Onkarabile ‘Scara’ Mothibedi, 28, is confident of retaining his World Boxing Federation (WBF) African Bantamweight title when he gets into the ring on 21st May.

Mothibedi who defeated local boxer Tshepang ‘Gearbox’ Babui in an entertaining 12 rounds back in November is yet to know his next opponent.

The Scud Promotion stable pugilist told Voice Sport that defeating a skillful Babui has given him confidence that he can hold his own against any challenger.

“Babui is a tough nut to crack. It’s a victory I’ll cherish forever but my focus is now on my next fight. I’ve no idea who I’ll be facing but I’ve started preparing because I know what’s at stake,” said the Goodhope-born fighter.

“I need to defend this title on behalf of myself, my family, and all my fans. I do not know my opponent as of now, but I believe I’m going to win it regardless of who I will be facing,” he said.

Meanwhile, local professional boxing promoter Thuso Khubamang said he hopes the title remains in Botswana as wishes Mothibedi’s upcoming opponent to be a Motswana.

“I wish World Boxing Federation will pick another local boxer as an opponent. This would be very good for the sport as more boxers experience fighting at a higher level,” said Khubamang.
