A foul-mouthed man who spent months insulting former president Ian Khama, his mother, Lady Ruth Khama and the BDP top brass has been send to Sbrana hospital for psychiatric assessment.
34- year- old Thato Mokowe, of Molepolole appeared in court on Monday facing five counts of use of offensive electronic communication.
The Village court heard that Mokowe on or about the 19th of November willfully and maliciously used electronic communication via his Facebook account to post a message, which read ‘Eric Molale o seb*n. *’
The electronic communication is said to be offensive in nature and was not intended for any legitimate communication, thereby disturbing the peace and quiet of readers.
On the second count the accused person on the 19th of November using his Facebook account posted a message which read, ‘Ian Khama a ler*t*, nny*an* a nny*an*n*a*a e bile nn*w*na for nn*w*na’ or word to that effect which electronic communication was offensive.
On another count, Mokowe allegedly posted message on his Facebook account which read, ‘Ian Khama a s*b*no, a l*r*te + mmaagwe Lady Ruth Khama a tla a mensa boladu go fitlhela bo tlala grip over my money ka bank Gaborone.’
The message is said to be offensive in nature and was not intended for any legitimate communication, thereby disturbing the peace and quiet of readers.
On count four, the accused person on the 19th of November willfully and maliciously used electronic communication via his Facebook account posted a message Khama a s*b*no, a l*r*te + mmaagwe Lady Ruth Khama a tla a mensa bolado go fitlhela a tlatsa grip jourbarstard.
On the fifth count, Mokowe allegedly posted on his Facebook account a message on the 21st of November, which read,
“Batswana Tlhotlang cell phone yaaka ya utlwala nn*w*na ke diboletse coz others shows of information ka sengwe le sengwe se buang ka sone. Botsenwa ga bona le May 2013 bore l*r*te, nn*w*na, nn*wa*an*ana, s*b*no + many more tlhapa ka vary carry on. Ga gona botsenwa ebile B.D.P leaders ba m*r*te botlhe le puo tsa bone Batswaneng,”
State Prosecutor Joshua Ntau made an application asking court to grant an order for Mokowe’s psychiatric assessment pending their investigations.
When asked if he has anything to say Mokowe confirmed that the Facebook account belongs to him and he created it in 2017. He told the court that he is not done insulting people and that the magistrate is next.
Magistrate Lindiwe Mokgoro granted an order for Mokowe’s psychiatric assessment at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital.
On Tuesday, prosecution came back to court making a new order application for the accused’s admission at Sbrana.
Ntau told court that the hospital rejected the initial order on the basis that they can only do his assessment next year and that it did not indicate that he should be admitted.
Magistrate Mokgoro issued a new order for Mokowe’s admission while waiting for an assessment.
She ordered that the accused be back in court on December 17th for mention.
