Her Majesty The Queen awards Madibana for community service

AWARD: Kagiso Madibana's Commonwealth Point of Light Award

Local Philanthropist, Kagiso Madibana was last Friday awarded Commonwealth Point of Light in honour of her exceptional voluntary service.

32-year-old Bobonong born Madibana is the founder of Nayang Association that focuses on helping the under-privileged school going children in rural areas with shoes, food, sanitary towels and clothes.

Through her ‘Soles for Souls’ project Madibana managed to collect and donate more than 6000 pairs of school shoes to students.

As part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London 2018, Her Majesty the Queen, as Head of the Commonwealth, is thanking inspirational volunteers across the 54 Commonwealth nations for the difference they are making in their communities and beyond.

Speaking at the ceremony, UK High Commissioner in Botswana Sian Price said she was delighted to recognise Madibana’s exceptional work in supporting vulnerable communities, and described her leadership and drive as ” inspirational.”

For her part Madibana said she was happy to receive the noble award. She said that following a terrible of Covid-19 lockdonws and anxiety in 2020, this has simply been the best news to date.
