Reportedly annoyed at being reprimanded by her grandmother over her wayward behaviour, a 15-year-old girl is said to have stabbed the elderly woman twice.

The Tonota teen then allegedly turned the knife on her grandfather, lashing out at the old man when he tried to rescue his wife during the Thursday night showdown.

Speaking to The Voice, Tonota Station Commander, Oteng Ngada revealed the girl’s grandfather reported the incident at around 2000 hours on the day it happened – 25 February.

“She was arrested that same evening at their home in Manyanda ward. She did not attempt to flee and was later released pending investigations,” stated Ngada, adding the elderly couple are in their 80s.

“Her grandparents were taken to the clinic where they were treated and discharged the same day. We are still to engage with the social workers because of her age. And then she will be taken before Francistown Magistrates Court where she will be charged with unlawful wounding,” continued the police boss.

According to Ngada, the girl is now staying with her mother, who resides in Gaborone.

He urged people to liaise with social workers and chiefs when they have unruly children.
