A 15-year-old school girl in Jwaneng town committed suicide by hanging herself with a skipping rope last Wednesday.

The teenager tied the noose around her neck, and the other end of the elastic rope to the upper compartment of her closet.

The ninth grader who’s studying in South Africa was on vacation and had visited her family in the diamond mining town.

She was discovered by her father in the evening when he returned from.

The father got concerned when she did not show up for supper, and went to check on her in her bedroom, only to discover his daughter motionless.

Confirming the incident, Jwaneng Police Station Commander Thuso Basuti said they received a report around 8:30.

“She was found by her father when he arrived home, and he cut off the rope before calling the Emergency Medical Services and finally reported the matter to the police. She was certified dead by the medical doctor upon arrival at the hospital,” said Basuti.

Basuti said he was concerned about suicide incidents involving young people in his area.

He revealed to the Voice Online that since January this year they’ve recorded a total of three cases.

He further advised parents to have close relationships with their children and encourage them to be open any life’s issues.
