WOMAN WHO BURNT BABY DADDY WITH COOKING OIL BE SENTENCED NEXT YEAR

Facing an unlawful wounding conviction that was handed down in November, a woman who burnt her baby daddy with cooking oil missing his genitalia by an inch is lucky to have her freedom to at least spend this festive season with her family. Her sentencing has been postponed to January, 24th, 2022.

Tebagano Masia, 34, was found guilty of unlawfully wounding her then boyfriend Boikuelo Mokgethi, 40, with boiling cooking oil.

The court heard that on November 19th last year, Masia waited for Mokgethi to fall asleep before she heated up some oil and poured it all over him causing secondary degree burns on his chest and thighs.

The court heard that Masia’s anger was fuelled by her boyfriend’s refusal to withdraw a case of malicious damage to property he lodged against her after she vandalized his car on three occasions.

When presenting their plea in mitigation Masia’s attorney Clifford Foroma submitted that although the court did not take their defense into account, her client was only acting in self defense as she was in an abusive relationship with the complainant for eight years.

Holding in his hands printed pictures of Masia’s swollen face in a bid to convince the court, Foroma pleaded with court to consider a non custodial sentence.

“Although the court did not take her evidence into account, the complainant was abusing her throughout their relationship. We pray for a fine instead of a custodial sentence as my client is a mother of three children that solely depend on her “pleaded Foroma.

However the court was not convinced by the pictures as there was no evidence that Masia sustained the injuries at the hand of Mokgethi.

Having rejected the suggested date because it will not be suitable for him, Foroma agreed to a date in January 2022 to note his client’s fate.
