Gaborone West Police have confirmed the death of a couple who lost their lives in a car accident in Mogoditshane along Molepolole road on Saturday night.
Assistant Superintendent Comfort Mpuchane said the deceased, a 60-year-old man and his 55-year-old wife were passengers in a Toyota STI vehicle that collided with a BMW
The accident is said to have occurred just 15 minutes before curfew time when the Toyota was turning into Block 6 from Grandpalm while the BMW driver was from Mogoditshane direction.
Mpuchane said the Toyota driver sustained head injuries and he is recovering at the hospital while the BMW driver escaped unharmed.
“We rushed the two passengers to the hospital where the doctors certified them dead. The traffic lights at the accident scene are under construction and not functioning. The rule is that whoever arrives and stops at the malfunctioning lights first has the right of way. I advise drivers to be cautious when approaching traffic lights that are not working and obey the road signs,” said Mpuchane.
He said this is the third fatal accident in his policing area since March after the other two occurred by Rainbow circle.
Mpuchane said all these accidents were caused by failure to observe road signs.
He also advised drivers not to drink and drive.
He said the investigations are continuing and that the offender will be arraigned before court as soon as they are done.
This real disheartening indeed!
