Capital Management Botswana (CMB) Liquidator, Kopanang Thekiso, has vehemently dismissed allegations of misusing assets under his care for personal gain, maintaining they are malicious and baseless.
Thekiso has been accused among others, of using a Landcruiser initially belonging to embattled former Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Carter Morupisi.
In a complaint letter sent to this publication, Thekiso was accused of using the repossessed luxury off-roader for personal errands and farm activities, a claim he categorically denies.
Speaking exclusively to The Voice, the Liquidator and Director of Desert Secretarial Services (DSS) said the claims were not only malicious but completely false.
“I’m aware of the said accusations, because I received a questionnaire from a faceless blogger, who’s threatening my family and business associates with these baseless allegations,” said Thekiso.
While he admitted to occasionally driving the vehicle within Gaborone, Thekiso firmly rejected suggestions it was used for his farm activities.
He said the Landcruiser was initially at the Office of the Receiver, until the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) decided that it be taken and sold in order to recoup the money used to purchase it.
“That is when we made an application to court, and the process to sell it on behalf of BPOPF began,” he said.
He said there was concern that the vehicle had been motionless for far too long, which could lead to corrosion and degradation of fuel and engine oil.
“Usually we sell through auction, but our worry this time was the cruiser was still brand new and through auction we were unlikely going to get a good value,” he told The Voice.
“I can’t deny driving the car. I was not hiding it, and even the Master of the High Court was aware. It was solely for the purpose of attracting potential buyers as it even had a sticker. Even then I had to be careful, because the intention was not to run the mileage, that’s why the issue of the farm doesn’t suffice because my farm is very far,” Thekiso said.
The Landcruiser was eventually sold to Boyboy Motheo Gaosegelwe for P400 000 and The Voice has reviewed the sale and transfer documents, confirming the transaction.
