*Team Distant bags six nominations
*Samantha Mogwe follows with five
First, the YAMAs dripped by in a blaze of both glory and controversy.
Now, with awards season in full swing, the biggest event on the calendar, The Botswana Musician’s Union (BOMU) Awards, is inching closer.
Set for 16 December at the Royal Aria Stadium, the event represents a final shot at redemption for those who have missed out previously, while those who have already tasted success will be craving more.
Leading the way in terms of nominations is Team Distant, with the dynamic duo in the running for a possible six awards.
The Afro House pair are hotly followed by Samantha Mogwe, who had an incredible year with her album VII and features in five of the 27 categories up for grabs.
South African based DJs, Ngwazi and KSB are also serial nominees, with four-a-piece, just rewards for a spectacular 2023.
Heavyweights such as Han C (who cried tears of joy at the YAMAs), Harry Cane, William Last KRM (who win big in the US), Lizibo and Veezo View also feature heavily, receiving three and two nominations respectively.
If history has taught us anything, however, it’s not to count any chickens before they hatch – just ask Chef Gustos!
Up for seven awards at the YAMAs earlier this month, the ‘Away’ hit-maker walked away without a single one.
With the BOMUs decided by public vote (voting lines close on 14 December) this one hits that little harder.
Prize monies and a theme for the event are expected to be announced soon.
