India link a huge boost for local cricket
Botswana’s cricketing ambitions have received a boost bigger than an AB de Villiers six, securing a potentially game-changing partnership with one of the sport’s powerhouses: India.
Made possible by the Indian High Commissioner, Bharath Kumar Kuthati and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), local cricketers and coaches will now get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to train and play at Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
Responsible for producing some of the greats of the game, including the swashbuckling batsman, Gundappa Viswanath, who played 91 Tests for India, as well as ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid, the Bengaluru-based academy is regarded as one of the very best in the cricket-mad nation.
Thrilled Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Vice President, Sumod Damodar, said the long-term partnership will benefit BCA greatly.
“We are extremely privileged and excited to announce that Part A is in the implementation stage. Our Women’s team, the Herons, are scheduled to depart on November 2nd for training at Bengaluru and scheduled to return on 14th,” he revealed in a statement on Saturday, adding ‘Part B’ includes Grass Root level Boys Coaching Clinic from January to March next year.
KSCA will cover all costs associated with transportation, lodging, food, and laundry for all BCA athletes and officials who will be travelling for training camps.
