Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC ) president, Duma Boko, says the party will review a statement made by Member of Parliament for Ngami, Carter Hikuama on Saturday before taking any action against him.
Immediately after his party President and Secretary General, Dumelang Saleshando and Goretetse Kekgonegile’s suspension, Hikuama went to his social media page and made a post with the headline, ‘An injury to one is an injury to all.’
Hikuama added in the post: “I learned the word solidarity and lived it from my trade union activism. I have been drilled to the point where solidarity became part of my DNA. Oxford online dictionary defines solidarity as ‘unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with common interests, mutual support within a group’. As such I stand in solidarity with Saleshando and Kekgonegile on the just imposed suspension from the UDC for a period of three months.”
Hikuama further stated that he took the decision because the suspended members are his comrades and that they share a mutual feeling, vision and political principles. “We belong to the same political home, the BCP. What they say and do is a mandate they carry for the entire BCP until reviewed at the next BCP congress/conference.”
However, the UDC President, Duma Boko said that they intended to look at the statement before making a ruling on it.
