Six young men have been arrested by police in Shakawe policing area for sexual offences against six different young girls aged between 15 and 16.
The six defilement cases and one rape case were reported within the past two weeks.
Confirming the cases, Police District 17 Administration Officer, Goitsemodimo Molapisi, said in the first two cases, which were reported on Independence Day, two 21-year-old men, one from Legonono ward and another from Mabudutsa ward in Gumare were arrested for having sexual relationships with two 16-year-old cousins, both Form Three students.
“They have been charged with defilement,” explained Molapisi.
On October 1st, a 19-year-old man was arrested after allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl. In this case the girl is said to have gone for an all-night entertainment at the famous Macemba joint in Gumare and, around 4am, she asked the boy to accompany her as she was scared to walk home alone in the dark.
“Allegedly, along the way, he raped her and she reported the matter to the police. The young man has been remanded in prison pending the finalisation of the investigations,” explained Molapisi.
In yet another case, a 19-year-old teenager was arrested for having a sexual affair with a 15-year-old Form Two student and has been slapped with a defilement charge. The girl’s mother threatened to beat the truth out of her daughter after she sneaked out of the house to spend a night with him on October 3rd.
“She told her mother that she had spent the night with the boy and the mother reported the matter to the police,” added Molapisi.
On October 10th, another 19-year-old male of Rwee ward in Shakawe was arrested after spending a night with a 15-year-old Form Two student.
The young man was also nabbed after the girl’s mother punished her for spending a night out and she told her that she was with the said boy.
In yet another defilement case that was reported on October 11th to Shakawe Police, a 13-year-old Form 1 student allegedly spent a night with her 19-year-old boyfriend and the angry mother reported the matter to the police leading to the young man’s arrest.
Meanwhile, the police are in pursuit of a young man who allegedly impregnated a 16-year-old girl of Tsodilo settlement.
The girl gave birth in July this year but the matter was only reported to the police by a social worker last month after discovering the defilement act.
“We believe we will get him. The girl says she did it with some boy at school and she does not remember his name,” Molapisi noted.
They should be severly punished.
