Football official charged with indecent assault
Double Action ladies football team owner Senki Sesinyi was on Monday arraigned before Village Magistrate facing a single count of indecent assault.
Senki has been under investigation by the Botswana Police Child Friendly Centre for the past four months until the case was finally submitted to the DPP office recently.
The 48-year-old former Botswana Football Association Vice President 2, has all this time been on suspension from football activities to allow for police investigations. The decision was taken following formal interviews conducted on BFA officers by the police.
The disturbing allegations levelled against Senki emerged at a workshop organised by BFA Safeguarding Officer for invited experts to discuss safe sport and different types of sexual harassment.
The alleged sexual harassment survivor became overwhelmed with emotions and broke down in the middle of the session and that’s when she revealed that her boss had sexually harassed her.
The 18-year-old female soccer player allegedly opened up about how she was so crushed by the horrendous violation that she dropped out of school and even attempted to commit suicide. She is currently undergoing counselling.
The court heard that the accused person on or about the 11th July, allegedly fondled the victim’s breasts and kissed her without consent. The indecent act is said to have occurred at Senki’s business office where he is running a butchery at Gaborone west in Gaborone.
The state prosecution did not oppose bail and plea was reserved.
Village Magistrate Nkau therefore granted Senki bail and ordered him to be back in court on the 15th of February for the status update and plea.
