Accused of stealing P700, 000 over six-year spree
A Zimbabwean woman who worked as a manger at Mega Drugstore, a pharmacy in Francistown, is facing over 400 counts of stealing from her employer during a prolonged crime spree believed to have run for six years.
42-year-old Tichaidza Taurona-Mavuchira’s sticky fingers are said to stretch back to September 2015, from which time she reportedly helped herself to P700, 000 before her alleged thieving was uncovered earlier this year.
In a drawn-out mention before Francistown Magistrates Court on Monday, with court requiring over three hours to read out all the charges, Taurona-Mavuchira pleaded not guilty to every single count.
Her bail came with a P5, 000 price tag, while she was also required to provide two sureties, bound to P2, 500 each.
Taurona-Mavuchira, who is now unemployed, must also report herself to Central Police Station and was warned not to interfere with the investigations.
She is due back in court on 6 December.
Based in Nswazwi Mall in the second city, Mega Drugstore is an affiliate of Hana Pharmacy.
It describes itself as ‘one of the leading retail pharmacies in Botswana’ and deals in wide range of drugs and pharmaceutical products.
