PLEADING INNOCENT: Daddy Doi

Dad accused of skipping 59 monthly installments

What started as a monthly P450 maintenance fee eight years ago has escalated into a P26, 550 debt for a father-of-three.

Appearing before Maun Magistrates this week, 40-year-old Olebogeng Doi was charged with 59 counts of failing to comply with a December 2012 court order.

Back then, Doi had been ordered to pay P450 a month in maintenance for his children.

However, he is accused of skipping 59 installments before his fed-up baby mama dragged him to the authorities.

In his brief court appearance this week, the unemployed dad protested his innocence, saying simply, “I understand the charges put before me and plead not guilty.”

The case had initially been scheduled for arraignment last September but was postponed after Doi requested proceedings be conducted in his mother tongue of Kalanga. Six months later and an interpreter has finally been availed before court.

Doi, who has since been served with the necessary documents, will appear again on the 4th of June for Case Management conference.
