They are deceiving themselves- Molutsi

Botswana National Front (BNF)President, Duma Boko’s lobby list for the party’s Central Committee has suffered a major blow following the withdrawal by its Chairman, Dr Patrick Molutsi.

Molutsi who contested for a parliamentary position during the 2019 General Elections under the Umbrella for Democratic Change as candidate for GoodHope/Mabule constituency told this publication in an interview that he was not part of the, ‘Team Stability’ as alleged.

The group’s lobby list has been circulating on social media platforms citing Molutsi as its Chairperson.

Previously he was linked to ‘Team Restoration’ led by another party presidential aspirant, Mpho Dibeela, but he later distanced himself from the faction.

Molutsi said he was aware that his name was being used by the Boko team and that he has since informed them to remove it. “They are deceiving themselves, I do not belong to any faction. With me it is about serving the organisation not lobby lists. Such lists create disunity and slows delivery of the party mandate.”

Molutsi explained that when one is a leader, they must drive the whole institution, not a lobby list.

“If you lead a side then you are clearly showing the other faction that they do not belong with you. This divides the party even further,” he said.

Molutsi said that his vision is to have a consensus building method that will be building the party without excluding anyone. He said that the party’s Central Committee must be inclusive of youth and women too. “What is happening is unhealthy and we have to all do away with it.”

However, Molutsi said that he was still undecided on which position to contest for. “I haven’t made up my mind yet and even after I do I will not be part of any lobby group,” he added.

Efforts to get a comment from the party’s Publicity Secretary, Justin Hunyepa, failed as his phone did not go through.

BNF will hold its elective congress next year after it was postponed due to Covid-19.

He has gone further and instructed the party to withdraw the statements or face possible lawsuit.
