Police investigate defilement

Letlhakane police are investigating four separate incidents of defilement, all involving impregnated 16-year-old girls from the same school.

In a brief interview with The Voice, Letlhakane Station Commander, Michael Maphephu revealed a social worker reported three of the cases last Tuesday.

“She reported that the three pregnant girls stated they were impregnated by men older than them. The pregnancies are at three-month and four-month stages,” disclosed Maphephu, adding he could not reveal the identity of the school the girls attend as it is against police policy.

As for the fourth case, the top cop said the girl’s mother reported the matter after noticing her daughter was bleeding from her private parts.

“She said after confronting her daughter, the girl told her she had committed abortion with the help of her 19-year-old boyfriend. We managed to trace the boyfriend, who told us he bought the pills from a woman in Francistown.

“The 25-year-old woman was arrested last week in Francistown and was found in possession of eight pills we suspect are used to terminate pregnancy,” the police chief said, adding the pills have been sent to the lab for testing.

Meanwhile, Maphephu warned the public to ‘take it easy’ now that the sale of alcohol is once again allowed.

“From Wednesday to Sunday, we already recorded two cases of drunken driving, seven cases of minor accidents and eight cases of assault. People should not be too excited otherwise they will lose their lives,” concluded the Station Commander gravely.
