A man found in possession of a stolen mini bus was fatally shot by Tshebe Police at Bisoli Veterinary gate last night.
The unidentified man was seen driving the vehicle near Ramokgwebana border, heading to Bisoli gate where he was stopped in his tracks by the men in blue.
Confirming the incident, Botswana Police Service Public Relations Officer Near Bagali told this publication that the mini bus had been reported missing earlier that day.
Bagali said police officers stationed at the gate were alerted when they saw a vehicle matching the description driving towards them at high speed.
“They stopped the driver, and ordered him to step out. He flatly refused, instead he immediately drew a knife and threatened the officer attending to him,” Bagali said.
The police spokesperson further told The Voice Online that when more officers came to their colleague’s aid, the driver got out and charged at them armed with a knife and a wooden pick handle.
Bagali said the deceased was also hurling stones at the police, while aggressively brandishing a knife and a wooden pick handle.
“Dangerous as he was, he was fatally shot. He was taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival. We’ve commenced with our investigations to know who he was and where he came from,” closed Bagali.
