Bonnie Fisher

Over a decade ago, Bonnie Fisher released Mmapula, a song that went on to become a smash hit, topping local music charts for a very long time.

As new hits came up, leaving Mmapula as a distant memory, its creator also vanished from the music scene.

After the incredibly long hiatus, Bonnie Fisher has returned to making music, and as an apology to his fans, he has dropped a brand new offering called Bend Over.

We caught up with him to find out where he has been and what we can look forward to in his return.

Many people thought you had become a one hit wonder, where have you been?

I have been around and growing musically because I had to either do it right or not at all.

I did not want to compromise on my next project and release unnecessarily until I had found myself again and perfected my craft!

Mmapula was one of the biggest songs in BW when it was released and it remained relevant for a really long time since, did you anticipate that it would do so well?

Yes, Mmapula was one of the biggest songs in BW and I must admit, I didn’t see that coming.

The song did exceptionally well and exceeded our expectations, so much that people still call me “Mmapula” when they see me years later.

A song that big is bound to open so many doors for a person, care to share what it did for you?

It transformed my life and introduced me to enhanced circles of interaction- I got to work with a lot of talented musicians and producers locally and in neighboring countries!

I also gained a lot of experience and exposure as a businessman in general.

I noticed you’re genre fluid which makes me wonder, what do you think is the reason most local musicians, especially those in R&B, POP or these new ages genres, don’t stick to a specific genre?

Yes, I am indeed.

I am not quite sure why that is the case locally, but I believe that sticking to one genre confines your creativity.

For many artists, getting better in their craft means constantly practicing their creativity by testing the waters in different genres.

Hmm…Interesting. So, you’re returning to the music scene with a new single titled Bend Over, an interesting title. What’s the song about?

Bend Over is an RNB song which has a fusion of afrobeat and a touch of Amapiano.

This song is really just about a man who is head over heels in love with his woman and decided to show her appreciation and appreciate her beauty and sensuality through song.

I know it’s still fresh on the market, but how is it doing so far since it’s on multiple streaming sites and playing on local radio stations?

The reception has been amazing so far, a lot of people are loving my new sound.

I am always humbled by the love I receive from my loyal fans.

So when can we expect the visuals?

We are excited about the music video and we anticipate the video to be released before the end of the year.

Look forward to it. Mmmapula was released at a time when physical copy sales were still a big thing and now it’s entirely a different story with more reliance on online platforms. How do you plan on making these digital music platforms work for you as a musician?

That’s right, the vast majority of listening is now happening on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. What’s important in this era is for musicians to make their songs available on these platforms in order to reach their current fans, as well as for reaching potential new fans.

This is something I am currently taking advantage of and using!

Anything else you’re working on?

My Producer Juzbeats and I are working on the Bend Over project which we will be releasing separately in singles – our next release should be at the end of September.

I am also working with South African based Namibian artists Chester ‘The Houseprince’ who was behind the hit song Barcadi, and Kaptain Tshazi on a single to be released soon.

Should we expect you to stick around to give us more hits this time?

Oh definitely!

I am with a new dedicated management team and I can confidently say I am here to stay.

I would like to sincerely apologize to my loyal fans for being absent in the music industry for a while.

I would like to promise them loyalty and quality music going forward.

If you could go back in time and do one thing differently, what would it be?

I would make better financial decisions after the release of Mmapula
