DONATING BLOOD : Botswana Post staff members

Aligned with the global Blood Donor Day celebrated on June 14th each year, BotswanaPost in partnership with Botswana National Blood Transfusion Services hosted a blood donation drive at the Philatelic Museum in Gaborone to recognize the significance of blood donation and its impact to save lives.

In an impressive show of support, BotswanaPost staff and the general public heeded the call and turned up in numbers to donate blood to contribute towards Botswana’s Blood bank supply.

Set in the backdrop of the expansive Philatelic Products including the sought after Botswana Stamps, those in attendance not only got to donate blood but also had the unique opportunity to appreciate the intricate history of Botswana Stamps through the rich tapestry adorning the Philately Museum walls.

The initiative was a resounding success with many appreciating the health screenings done ahead of donating blood as a few people got to learn of their health conditions they were oblivious to.

These included high blood pressure and low blood pressure. Though some spirits were dampened by the results, those who discovered these underlying health issues they were not aware of, were grateful for the screenings as they could now seek medical intervention where necessary or simply take better care of themselves.

Speaking on the event, BotswanaPost Communications Manager, Tshepo Happy Maphanyane, applauded BotswanaPost staff for turning up and encouraging others to take advantage of the opportunity to play a significant part in giving back.

“As a socially responsible institution, illuminating the path toward a healthier and compassionate society is paramount to us. We all have a role to play in the betterment of our communities and at Post we recognise this and strive to lead by example. Blood Donation is a selfless act of kindness and we extend our gratitude to the Blood Donation Botswana Team for their efforts in sensitizing the public on the need to increase Botswana’s Blood Bank. Thus we encourage all to support the Blood Donation Drive beyond the dedicated days of the campaign,” added Maphanyane.
