SEARCHING FOR MISS BOTSWANA
The hunt to find the fairest in the land begins in Ramotswa this Friday as the Miss Botswana team start their auditions.
‘Try-outs’ will be held across the country from 6th October to 4th November and are open to women aged between 18 and 25, who must be at least 1.67m tall, have a valid Omang and a squeaky clean record (i.e no previous criminal convictions!).
Auditions will include mini Beauty and Fashion Expos as a build-up to the National Beauty and Fashion Expo.
The event is said to be pivotal for the industry, with the aim of opening doors for local businesses to showcase their products on a global scale.
GIN & CHEESE
Mixing it up from the traditional ‘wine and cheese’ events, on 21 October Bartender will pair the dairy delight with gin instead.
Set for the wonderful Wagga Gardens with a ‘monochrome summer colours’ dress code, revelers will wash done the food and booze with plenty of good music.
The legendary DJ Fresh, O’Neal Africa, Dolphus, Shimrock, Bo Kettle, Shaft People and Sebaga are all lined up to perform, with Dollar Mac assuming the MC role.
Available at Liquorama: Phakalane, Middle Star, Southring and Kgale, Bartender (Molapo Crossing), standard tickets will set you back P500.
You get quite a bang for your buck, however, including a welcome drink, two mini gins, charcuterie cheese cone and a six-pack of tonic.
For those able to dig a bit deeper, VIP tickets are going for P1, 500, with the package featuring: welcome drink, five mini gins, a bottomless cheese platter, finger foods, branded gin glass, secure parking and tonic six-pack.
MARCHING WITH PRIDE
To usher in Africa Pride Month, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/questioning, Asexual (LGBTIQA) community will take to the streets of Gaborone this Saturday.
Starting at 7am from Game City Mall, the march will take approximately two hours.
After the walking comes the dancing, with a free music festival at Game City Parkade, where the likes of Fifi Afrika, DJ Fellow, Sego, Trey B-Burry, DJ Lady Boss, DJ Yun K Shi and DJ Maronza will do their thing.
MCs for the show are Freddie Pro and Phlyhoney.
This year the Gaborone Pride is focused on creating conducive social spaces to grow through creative artists, entrepreneurs, performing artists, open discussions about LGBTIQA issues and more.
LGBTIQA people, Allies, activists and human rights organizations are requested to come out to march in solidarity for the betterment of LGBTIQA rights and promotion of equality for all.
