SUSPECTED KILLER: Gabotlogelwe leaves court

Police arrest five in connection with mystery man’s murder

Although the police are yet to formally identify a Zimbabwean man beaten to death at a cattlepost on the outskirts of Tonota on Sunday morning, they have identified and arrested five suspects in connection with the murder.

The unknown victim’s bloodied, badly injured body was found lying face down in the dust of Morotole cattlepost.

The five: Matoto Bafetsang, 34, Mosimanegape Samolelo, 33, Goitsemang Gabotlogelwe, 31, Kelebonye Kanako, 32, who are all Batswana, and 22-year-old Zimbabwean, Ishmael Dube, were paraded before Francistown Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

It is rumoured the men believed the victim had stolen a bicycle and exacted their revenge in a bloody beating which sadly turned fatal.

SHACKLED SUSPECTS: Bafetsang and Samolelo were remanded in custody

Securing the remand of all five accused, Prosecutor Chendzimu Mangole told court, “This is a fresh matter and the investigations are still ongoing. We are opposed to the accused persons being granted bail until the investigations are complete as we fear they might tamper with our investigations.”

As well as murder, Dube was charged with entering the country illegally in July, which he pleaded guilty to.

The suspects return to court on 23 October.

Meanwhile, Tonota Station Commander, Oteng Ngada appealed for help with putting a name to the slain man.

“We have not being able to identify him and we are looking for his relatives. We urge people not to take matters into their hands as they end up causing death or injures,” said the top cop.
