Out on bail for murder, the red mist is said to have descended on Marumo Lemogang once again, leading him back to court last Friday facing an unlawful wounding charge.
With the victim currently fighting for his life in hospital, it is a charge that could well be upgraded to murder.
The middle aged man is accused of stabbing his fellow herdboy, 21-year-old Zimbabwean national, Proud Nkomo in the stomach with a knife.
Although the cops are yet to determine exactly what transpired, it seems the fallout occurred on Wednesday 3 November at Ledibeng cattlepost in Tonota where the two men worked.
Requesting Lemogang remain locked up in the slammer, the Investigating Officer, Fanilo Herbert Manyepedza told Francistown Magistrate Court there were several reasons the accused should not be given bail.
“The victim is currently in a critical condition. He was taken to the clinic by the employer and was transferred to Nyangabgwe Hospital where he remains admitted. Since he is critical we have not yet collected his statement.
“And the investigations are still at the initial stage; even the potential witnesses have not yet been located. Furthermore, if the accused is granted bail he might interfere with the investigations,” argued the Sub Inspector during Friday’s arraignment.
Saving his ace for last, although he did not go into detail, Manyepedza revealed the suspect also has a pending murder case before High Court, a matter for which he is currently on bail.
In the end, the Magistrate had little choice but to remand Lemogang, setting his next court appearance for 25 November.
